EFI 2026
EFI is the first-ever Indian French language proficiency assessment, designed specifically for students and candidates across India. EFI offers a structured evaluation of language skills aligned with international standards, ensures that all French learners gain the confidence, skills, and recognition they need to excel in the French language at school and beyond.
What is EFI?
EFI is a french structured language proficiency exam designed exclusively for learners in India. It follows the internationally recognized CEFR framework, assessing five key skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Grammar & Vocabulary.
EFI has been conceived, developed, and is fully organised and conducted by Prayatna Educational Society. PES manages all academic, administrative, and operational aspects of the examination. From its inception to its implementation, all aspects of the examination are managed solely by Prayatna Educational Society — including the definition of levels, scheduling of sessions, design of content, paper setting, selection of partner institutions as examination centres, issuance of admit cards, evaluation processes, declaration of results, and certification.

EFI offers a progressive and structured evaluation system designed to cater to learners at different stages of their French language journey. Whether you are a school student, a university learner, or an adult professional, EFI provides the right level to assess and enhance your skills. Each level is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), ensuring a clear roadmap for language development.
EFI Mini Apprenant is specially designed for young learners 10 years and below of age who are just beginning their French language journey. This level introduces the basics of French in a playful, structured, and age-appropriate way, allowing children to build confidence early on.
Who is it for?
EFI Mini Apprenant is designed for young children 10 years and below who are new to French. This exam nurtures early curiosity and builds foundational language skills in an engaging and developmentally appropriate format.

Evaluation process
Each skill is assessed independently using clear, child-friendly formats. The exam is designed to be stress-free, with tasks based on themes familiar to children. EFI (Épreuve de Français pour l'Inde) follows a structured and standardized assessment system to ensure a fair evaluation of students' French language proficiency. Each level has a separate exam, assessing five key skills based on predefined CEFR-aligned criteria.

- Before the exam
Admit card is issued
Admit cards are issued by Prayatna Educational Society and must be carried to the centre along with photo identification.

Candidates sitting the exam entirely online take their speaking and writing papers on this date, through a secure platform.

The online paper, taken from home by every candidate in both modes.

Writing and speaking at a centre
Candidates registered for the on-site mode attend their allotted test centre for the writing and speaking papers. Both components must be completed for the exam to be evaluated.
- After the exam
Double evaluation, then results
Every paper is assessed twice: first by the examiner at the centre, then independently reviewed by an expert panel at headquarters. Results are declared digitally; a printed certificate and mark sheet can be ordered afterwards.
